Skin Cancer

What is it?

There are several types of skin cancer, which have a common risk factor: exposure to the ultraviolet rays in sunlight, that cause cell damage that, when accumulated, can generate mutations in the DNA of epithelial cells. Some signs that may alert you to the presence of some type of skin cancer are: wounds, irritations or ulcers that do not heal, moles that appear from one day to the next and change in shape, color and size. Remember that solar overexposure can play a determining role for the onset of this disease, so daily use of sunscreen will help protect your skin.

Types of cancer

There are three major types of skin cancers: Basal Cell Carcinoma, Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Melanoma.

How do we treat it?

The treatment and management will be different depending on the type of cancer, for this a medical examination is required and, if necessary, a biopsy will be performed prior to the definitive treatment. The treatment to remove the skin cancer is by the complete excision of the tumor with surgery, sometimes it is possible to apply topical treatment (on the injury) or to use laser, cryosurgery, electrodesecación, etc.
