Clinical Dermatology

What is it?

Rosacea is a common skin disease that commonly affects people with white complexion. It causes redness on the face, specially in the nose, cheeks or forehead and can sometimes reach the neck and chest area. It's commonly confused with acne, due to the redness of the skin and the appearance of small, red, pus-filled bumps. Although it is more common for rosacea to appear in women, this disease appears in men with even more severe symptoms. The causes of this disease are still unknown, although it has been linked to several factors that can make it worse.

  • Redness and semi-permanent inflammation
  • Spider veins in the face
  • Grains or pustules similar to those produced by acne
  • Red, irritated eyes
  • Burning and itching in the face
  • Red or bulbous nose

How do we treat it?

The treatment for rosacea only controls its symptoms. Since its cause is still unknown, it still has no cure, but it can be kept under control. Topical or systemic medications are given for treatment and we can help the skin to look better through laser-based treatments and chemical peels.
