Acne Scars

What is it?

Acne scars are marks left on the skin due to inflammation. These scars vary depending on the skin type, healing capacity, genetics and severity of acne. There are three types of scars produced by acne:

Pigmented scars / stains:

They are the result of a pink or brown hyperpigmentation left when the pimple disappears.

Atrophic / Depressed, serrated or flat against the upper layer of the skin:

Severely inflamed pustules of pus can leave this type of scars. They are small grooves that change the texture of the skin, leaving it with a rough appearance.

Hypertrophic and Keloid:

Such type of scars are elevated and raised in appearance. An excessive amount of collagen is formed, presenting itself as balls or borders. Its location is especially frequent in the chest and upper back. They occur most often in severe (cystic) acne.
